          About Us

          Picture
          The Utah Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (UAFCS) ia a state affliate of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS). AAFCS was founded in 1909. UAFCS is a non-profit professional organization whose purpose is to improve the quality of individual and family life.

          The AAFCS is the only national organization represeting family and consumer sciences professionals across practive areas and content specializations.

          Who Belongs to UAFCS

          Members of the Utah Association of Family and Consumer Sciences represent a comprehensive cross section of the family and consumer sciences profession. Opportunities for involvement in the association occur at the national and state levels, as well as with colleagues in professional sections and subject-matter oriented divisions. Examples of career specialty areas in the professional sections and divisions include:

          PROFESSIONAL SECTIONS

          Colleges, Universities and Research
          Teachers and administrators of family and consumer sciences programs in four-year institutions and community colleges. Researchers on college or university campuses who add to the knowledge base of family and consumer issues.

          Extension
          Cooperative Extension educators and administrators of family and consumer sciences related to family issues employed at the county, state, and federal levels.

          Business
          Family and consumer sciences professionals who work in the business sector to identify trends and integrate consumer needs into the design and marketing of consumer goods and services.

          Home and Community
          Community volunteers, full-time homemakers, free lance or part-time employees, and retired professionals who work to strengthen the profession within the community.

          Human Services
          Specialists in health care or human service, social work, and the legal profession who provide support to families and individuals in need.

          Elementary, Secondary, and Adult Education
          Encompasses a wide range of interests, from public/private school teachers to state vocational education office administrators.

          Family Relations & Human Development
          Professionals in the areas of human sexuality, gerontology, personal counseling and child care.

          Nutrition, Health and Food Management
          Professionals promoting nutrition and the quality management of food production, sanitation and safety.
