Break Out Session Descriptions:
Housing and Interior Design: A panel discussion with Jana Pendleton, (Herriman High), Mary Lynn, (Jordan High), Charri Jensen, (Canyon Corner High), Hilary Hanseen, (Pleasant Grove High)
Description: This session will focuses on interior design standards that our students most struggle to comprehend or complete. Strategies will be shared that can be implemented in the classroom to increase student performance.
Human Development and Family Studies Presenter: Lacee Boschetto, Utah State University
Description: This session will be providing teachers with a variety of teaching strategies that can be implemented when introducing concepts pertaining to growth and development and developmental theories.
Food Science, Nutrition and Culinary Arts: A panel discussion with Danielle Jones, (Canyon View Junior High), Severina Roundy, (American Fork High School), Candace Wilson, (Westlake High School), Cindy Tegge, (Granite Technical Institute)
Description: This session will focus on the Strand and Standards in the Culinary pathway that students preformed lowest on over the past few years and ways that these teachers have helped them to be more successful in mastering these concepts.
Apparel and Textiles Presenter: Amber S. Williams, Utah State University Presentation Title: What’s in my Clothes?
Description: Sourcing textiles for product is one of the most important factors that impacts performance, durability, and comfort. For consumers, textile knowledge is just as important. During this presentation, we will explore the most popular fibers being used in the fashion industry, and share ideas for sharing this content with students.
Self-Reflection is time for conference participants to ponder what is happening in their personal and professional life and discover what is helping and hindering their ability to be the FCS professional they desire to be. A plan for sessions to attend and future actions to take can be made wiring this time of self-reflection.
Goal-Setting time is provided for conference participants to reflect on current practices and set some goals to improve on or change those practices to improve the success of those they serve.
Building a Network is time provided for the conference participants to meet new FCS professionals or catch up with previous friends and colleagues to discuss ways the conference materials and ideas will be implemented into programs to build the profession of FCS and improve the lives of those in our communities.
Optional Venues to Visit: Thanksgiving Point offers conference attendees the optional opportunity to purchase tickets to enjoy the venues with family and friends during one day of the conference. The tickets will allow admission into two of the venues in one day. Ticket cost is $20 per person.
